Keychange gets bigger... / by francine gorman

One of the projects that i’ve been working on for the past 18 months is the PRS Foundation-led Keychange initiative, inviting music festivals and conferences to commit to programming a 50:50 gender balanced line up across their stages and events by 2022.

The project has gathered a huge amount of attention and initiated some important debates since its launch in 2018 - so now it’s time to head to the next stages. Freshly announced is the news that alongside festivals and conferences, we’re now inviting ALL music organisations to join the pledge, so i’ve been busily speaking to orchestras, academies, culture houses, record labels and beyond over the past few months, to bring them into the project and to help us make the ideas behind this project as visible and effective possible.

Some amazing institutions have come on board, from the Southbank Centre and Barbican Centre to the Royal Opera House, BBC Symphony Orchestra (all the BBC Orchestras in fact!), London Contemporary Orchestra, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. It’s been a real pleasure to hold such interesting and insightful conversations with such celebrated organisations, so a big thanks to the rest of the Keychange team for their help, guidance and support throughout the process.

More exciting news to follow, but for now, please head to keychange.eu to find out more about this project - it’s an important one.
